  1. Congrats to Russ, I say. I think he’s a good choice.

  2. By all accounts Russ is a good guy. It’s just that the job seems to be a good-guy-inator — so I can’t say I envy him. All the best to him though. I want to live in a city with a great newspaper — one that’s not sucked dry by its vampiric mother company — and if a good guy is willing to stand up and give it a try, more power to him.

  3. I hear the Grunion Gazette has a benevolent publisher.

  4. Hah — I was just lovin’ on the Gazette yesterday, when it once again told me all I need to know: Two pitbulls killed a chihuahua in the beach dog park, so the town’s up in arms to ban rottwielers and pitbulls. (They’ll pry mine from my cold dead hands.)

And with the little office right around the corner and all, I might actually envy Russ that job.

  5. You may be wondering what the (?!) means — means I, Kate “Out of the Loop” Cohen, didn’t see that coming, but wow.

  6. Yes, I recognized that notation from my old chess books: an unexpected but excellent move!
