Kate is face number one in anti-government-spying video

Val e-mails from work to ask if I hear the black helicopters, because People for the American Way used my protest photo in their new video against illegal domestic spying by our government. Val’s in there too. Check it out:

From the People for the American Way: The Senate passed a FISA reform bill last week that grants retroactive immunity to telecommunications companies that may have aided the Bush administration’s illegal domestic wiretapping. The bill also gives the government license to wiretap without individualized warrants. The House can still put on the brakes, so it’s time to take action. Watch our new video – produced in collaboration with our allies at the Electronic Frontier Foundation – featuring activists calling for Congress to stop the spying. Then add your voice by signing the petition.

Or contact your Congressional Representative directly. Sadly, mine is Dana Rohrabacher, but I wrote to him anyway. Common Cause makes it easy to find and contact all your elected officials here.

A talk-about-a-futile-effort update: My fearmongering Rep. Dana Rorabacher tells the OC Register, “Just think about shutting down the interceptions because of some misplaced notion about protecting American rights and we end up with families being murdered at Disneyland because some messages weren’t intercepted.” Guess he didn’t get the memo.

6 Remarks

  1. “some misplaced notion about protecting American rights” Scary

  2. I hate that guy.

  3. K&V, this is very cool. Good for you for taking a stand, and it’s nice to see you both in the video. Kaye, number one! Rock on.

  4. Yeah, this is a seriously bad thing. Bush made his weekly radio address about it today. They’re gonna crank the fear machine into high gear at the beginning of this week; they’ve got a lot on the line. If the rule of law ever got some purchase on their slippery hides … well, a girl can dream can’t she.

  5. And the video thing was a funny surprise. It’s got almost 10,000 views on the YouTube. If I were Chinese, I would have a word for wierd/good.

  6. I’m glad the music is cool.
